keeley jones doesn’t get enough weird girl cred in the funeral episode she literally asked roy if he would eat from a fruit tree fertilized by her decomposing body and got upset when he said no. she would do numbers on tumblr dot com
daily reminders
- no human being is 100% happy 100% of the time
- being a person is extraordinarily difficult even in the best of times
- this is not the best of times
- someone is grateful you exist (don’t argue, it’s true)
- a bad day does not predict a bad existence
- it’s gonna be okay
HG fans have been lovingly teasing Katniss for how she read Peeta through about the first 2/3 of THG, but I have to say, if you take off your “I’m reading a YA novel” glasses and instead look at it from Katniss’s perspective…she’s actually going with the most logical explanation for his behavior. What’s more likely: a boy who was kind to you once but has never spoken to you is willing to die for you, or that boy is working every angle he can (including you, since you owe him your life already) to survive a death match?
The games have been designed to turn people into killers, even people who ordinarily are very kind (see Mags, Finnick, and Lucy Gray for starters). The very existence of the games turns people from the same district against one another, for allies to break their bonds, for the strong to go after the weak, for children to do whatever they can to defend themselves from death. Deception for the sake of survival is part of the game. Katniss has seen it play out this way her entire life.
The fact that Katniss misread Peeta speaks not to her having a significant lack perception, because otherwise she reads people at least as well as an average person (some wrong, but quite a bit right). Instead, Peeta’s strategy to play the game highlights his strength of character and rejects Gaul’s assertions that people are inherently evil, which the games are designed to illustrate. Even when faced with certain death, Peeta chose to actively help Katniss and fight for her, something that likely no other tribute in the arena had done before, at least not to the length and extent that Peeta did.
having adhd and being a creator is like being on a timer. oh sorry you have this art idea? well you have approximately 12 hours to start it and 6 hours to finish the task or else you will lose interest and inevitably move on. oh you have an idea for a one-shot? well you’d better finish it in a day unless you want to banish it to your wips forever. ding dong bitch
listen if the little mermaid 2023 did anything right it was ariel and eric… they were already a good couple in the original but fleshing him out and making him drawn to the ocean in a parallel to ariel being drawn to land is so good. and kind of increasing that human vs merfolk tension to make it this romeo & juliet love story. like sorry they kind of slayed there. eric sees ariel turn back into a mermaid in front of him and all he does is hold her tighter. they’re both gigantic nerds. he’s a foot taller than her. it’s incredible.
Also… y’all be “het ship” this “het ship that”. Babe… I’m a whole lesbian… have literally never had any need to be w a man in my life, nor really see it be represented. YOU boiled it down to heterosexuality. I saw it for the POTENTIAL. For the cosmic connection they CLAIMED those two characters had, just to separate them like A LOT of Hollywood showrunners do for potential ships that have a large fan base. Regardless of if you wanted tedbecca to stay platonic or not, you’ve got to admit they did not write s3 to that finale. They simply didn’t.
And tbh, knowing that Jason sudeikis and Hannah waddingham and really that whole cast and crew said plainly multiple times that they SAW ppl shipping t/r, all it would’ve taken was a “ted lasso is about mentorship, fatherhood, and forgiveness. If you found anything else in it, that’s beautiful but we’re not going to explore that” to TEMPER EXPECTATIONS. But they didn’t do that. They knew what a small fraction of ppl were watching for, leaned into it, just to throw it in our face and call us stupid for seeing the subliminal context clues and tropes. So don’t play that bullshit with me frfr.
There’s a lot of things that I love about the hunger games but one of them is that the main romance, at its core, is the ‘weird girl/cool guy who’s obsessed with her’ trope
I can’t post the whole scene here, but please go read it. This is revolution. Peeta’s “Rue moment” with the morphling, where he gives her dignity in death, is why he’s such a great character, and why he and Katniss are so good together. Because Katniss too considers if she should sing, before realizing Peeta has the right words for this moment. Even then, she doesn’t let go of the woman’s hand. That’s not how the Games are meant to work, but they don’t care; they never have. They are so caring, so good, and both of them see and create beauty so vibrantly in the midst of pain. And Peeta … Peeta, this is why everyone loves you. What a moment. Not to mention Suzanne’s really lovely prose in Peeta’s dialogue here.
